Fabric Music
Fabric of Life-Music

Regardless of the level attained, the creative spirit of an artist can never stop learning. Artist Hebe Brooks is no exception to this rule. She seeks artistic knowledge at every opportunity and she challenges herself to go further in pursuit of inspiration and development of technique.

My love for art has been present since my childhood when I spent endless hours drawing with ink or painting. Hebe who grew up in the windy and cold land of Patagonia began traveling at an early age. As a student painting was her favorite class. In college, she enjoyed art history and world culture classes. Upon graduation, she traveled extensively and worked in different parts of the world visiting art museums and archaeological sites from Europe to the Far East and all through the Americas. Learning other languages allowed her to imbue in the cultures where she lived and to share ideas and traditions that would have gone unnoticed without direct communication. A second college degree in Fine Arts-Studio Painting and Art History from the University of Houston with the banner carrier distinction for the School of Art and the Magna Cum Laude honor led to the consolidation of her devotion to art.

Today, her work has several signature elements. One of these is her use of reflections. Whether they are gracing a gleaming silver teapot in a still-life painting or a crystal clear lake in a landscape, Hebe says her mission in depicting reflections is to engage viewers and cause them to question where the real object starts, where it ends and what part of it is actually a reflection of something else. Another common element is her use of fabric twisting and turning its way through the artwork. Whether reflections, fabric or other elements in her compositions, it is the passion for detail and perfection that sets her work apart. It is also this passion that has led to several awards and acceptances into esteemed juried exhibitions. Within the last years, her paintings have received numerous awards. Among these awards are Best of Show at the Annual Regional Exhibition Richardson Civic Art Society 2021; Silver Award at the Bosque Art Center National Juried Exhibition, Best Still Life at the Best of America Exhibit and at the International Guild of Realism Exhibition in Charleston; First Place Awards at the Texas & Neighbors Regional Exhibitions and at the Center for Contemporary Art Abilene, Second Place Award at the Richeson75 Landscape Exhibit, several Third Place Awards, People's Choice Awards, multiple Honorable Mentions and three times Finalist Recognitions at the International Artist Magazine Competitions. Her paintings have been accepted into many prestigious national and international art exhibits such as the exclusive 2015/2016 Touring Exhibition of the Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism. Most afternoons, one can find Hebe painting in her studio; however, her involvement with art extends beyond the studio walls. She is a current member of several artists associations including Master Artist of the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society (NOAPS), Member of the International Guild of Realism (IGOR), the Oil Painters of America Organization (OPA), Signature Artist of the American Women Artists Organization (AWA), Signature Artist of the National Society of Artists, Signature Artist of the Texas & Neighbors Association and Associate Member of the Allied Artists of America.

Volunteering for art related activities to increase art awareness is also one of her priorities. She is a past President and a current Board Director for the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society and she is a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. She thrives in the inspiration from seeing thousands of art pieces at one of the largest museums in North America. Total immersion in the art world is a concept she likes to pursue.

Art writers have recognize her work in several publications and her work has been included in catalogs and art books. Articles about her art include: "Hebe Brooks-Finding Interest through Surfaces", and eight-page article published in the International Artist Magazine; "Artist to Watch" published in Southwest Art Magazine and an article with her painting in Fine Art Connoisseur and in the American Art Collector Magazine.

The dedication to art is palpable in Hebe's paintings. Her work has received the admiration of art patrons and it is part of private and public collections. She seeks the creative spirit and artistic knowledge at every step in her daily life.
